THE 16TH Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) taekwondo competition kicks off today at the Insular Square mall in Mandaue City.

All is set for this tournament, which organizers will try to finish in one day.

All schools in the Cesafi will participate in the competition. Among them are powerhouse teams from the University of Cebu (UC), University of San Carlos (USC), University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) and Southwestern University-Phinma (SWU-Phinma).

UC and USC dominated last year’s tournament by hauling 19 and 10 golds, respectively.

The UC team of coach Michael Realista swept all the golds in the poomsae juniors divisions last year while they snagged nine in the seniors kyurogi category.

Coach Glenn Lava’s USC squad, meanwhile, ruled the seniors poomsae winning five golds. Their sparring jins also collected five gilts in the seniors sparring.
