Stall holders who lost their stalls in a fire in Sitio Oploc, Barangay Looc in Mandaue City at past 4 am yesterday can still negotiate for rentals with the Cabahug family who own the area.
Looc barangay chairman Sol Cabahug, one of the lot owners, said the land was not yet subdivided to the heirs but they all agreed to divide the income from the rentals between themselves.
The fire also damaged some of the boarding houses occupied mostly by students of the nearby University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue (UCLM).
At least 23 and some boarding houses were burned in the fire that originated at the J-Marco Internet Cafe owned by Joseph Marinas who said it was caused by a short circuit.
SFO2 Cipriano Codilla Jr. said they received the alarm at 4:50 am.
No one was hurt and the boarders remained at their units since the stalls bore the brunt of the damage.
Mandaue City Councilor Kevin Cabahug, who lives in the adjacent lot with his parents former Mandaue City councilor Editha Cabahug and Raul Cabahug, said a vacant lot at their house saved them from the fire.
Damage was pegged at P150,000 as most structures were made of light materials. Codilla said yesterday’s fire was the third to hit Mandaue City this month.
