Villages still adjusting to garbage schedule

SOME Cebu City barangays still collected and dumped garbage in designated areas within the day despite the new garbage collection schedule implemented by the Department of Public Services (DPS).

“No matter how much we informed the barangays that our garbage collection is only from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m., there are still barangays that don’t follow and still collect at 8 a.m. or 9 a.m.,” DPS Asst. Chief John Paul Gelasque said.

And since the DPS didn’t allow the barangays’ garbage trucks to dump their collected garbage at the Inayawan landfill within the day, the barangays would just keep the garbage until they can enter the landfill by 5 p.m.

Among the barangays that didn’t follow the schedule were Barrio Luz, Pasil, Sawang and Suba.

“We also have to consider the adjustment period. We will be holding meetings to address the concerns and do further assessment,” he said.
