Drug use on decline due to random tests

DRUG use among local government employees and officials may be declining with the constant random drug tests being done on them, the Cebu Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Office (CPADAO) said.

Ivy Durano-Mecca, who heads the CPADAO, said they conducted random drug tests on 20 local governments upon the requests of their local officials.

“We really see how these local government units show their support to our anti-drug programs compared to our evaluation last year,” she said.

Mecca told reporters yesterday that the local governments in the province are committed to ensuring drug-free workplaces in their offices.

She said they conducted random drug tests in the towns of Ginatilan, Tabuelan, Dalaguete and Naga City.

In Naga City, there were five job order employees who tested positive for illegal drug use.

“The Oplan TokHang (Toktok Hangyo), we really consider it as a happy problem because it is really effective. The only problem is the rehabilitation program of the different agencies,” she said.
