It is no longer surprising if suspected drug lord Rolan “Kerwin” Espinosa would mouth off names of police officers as his protectors and coddlers.

This was the statement of Ret. Police General, now Daanbantayan Mayor Vicente Loot who added that Kerwin will lie just to protect his life.

“Daan nana siya nagpataka. Tanan involved sa pagdakop niya, iyahang giapil (He has been saying baseless things. All the policemen involved in capturing him, he included in his list of protectors/coddlers). That’s the only way to lengthen his life,” Loot said.

Immunity

Kerwin, who was recently arrested by police and Interpol operatives in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), is being considered by the Department of Justice as a possible state witness and be given immunity.

Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II had anticipated that Kerwin would give vital information regarding the alleged involvement of Senator Leila De Lima in illegal drugs, aside from other high ranking officials who are allegedly his protectors.

Mayor Loot said drug lords like Kerwin should not be given immunity because immunity should be given only to the least guilty.

“They (drug lords) will say anything under the sun just to keep themselves alive. I’m against it,” Loot said.

Liar

Loot said he wouldn’t be surprised if Kerwin would name him as a drug protector.

“Kanus-a mana siya nagsulti sa tinuod? (When has he ever told the truth?) Anyway that’s his life. He knows better,” Loot said.

Loot said Kerwin has been the target of many policemen, including past directors of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO).

He said many were interested in neutralizing Kerwin, including him, during his stint as Deputy Regional Director for Operations (DRDO) in Central Visayas.

He said he came to know of Kerwin in 2010 when he was DRDO. Kerwin had been the subject of many raids by the Regional Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force (RAIDSOTF) at that time.

“The second time I heard his name nga ga-operate na siya didto sa (that he was operating in) Region 8. And it was also the time I came to know nga mangtas gyud kaayo siya (he was a monster),” Loot said.

Loot said Kerwin was a violent man who killed people he did not like. His arrest would give justice to his victims as well as the victims of his illegal drugs trade, Loot added.

Dignity

Loot said he was happy over the pronouncements of President Rodrigo Duterte that he would no longer name narco-politicians.

“Actually mao na akong gihangyo nga pwede (That was my request that) we would be the last. Kay just like any other person, naay pamilya, naa pud baya na silay gihambin sa ilang kasing-kasing, ang importansiya sa honor sa usa ka taw. Dignidad niya ug sa iyahang pamilya (Like any other person, the have a family. They keep in their hearts the importance of their honor and dignity and that of their family’s),” Loot said.
