Meralco rookie Grey making smooth transition to pro game

THE TRANSITION from amateur star to professional one is usually a rough one.

But for Meralco guard Jonathan Grey, the process has been made a smoother one, thanks to hand extended by his more experienced teammates.

And the results have been good as the former College of St. Benilde star dazzled with 12 points in their 91-68 victory over the reigning Cesafi champions University of the Visayas (UV) at the start of the Recoletos Invitational Cup on Wednesday at the University of San Jose-Recoletos Coliseum.

Grey admitted that he is still adjusting to the way the professional game is being officiated as well as the system that the Bolts run but added that he is appreciative of the help that his teammates often extend.

It helps to have the legendary Jimmy Alapag in their corner, says Grey, the seventh pick in this year’s draft. Alapag has officially retired from playing and is currently serving as an assistant for the Bolts.

“Every practice he’s always early and always positive. I’m so happy he’s there for the team,” Grey said.
