160-km race this Saturday

A TOTAL of 36 elite runners from around the country will be in Daanbantayan town in northern Cebu this Saturday to participate in the 2nd Cebu Northwest 100 Miles Marathon.

The 160-kilometer race starts at midnight of Saturday at the town’s municipal hall.

Heading the cast of contenders are defending women’s champion Analiza Usaraga of Cagayan de Oro City, last year’s women’s runner- up Elaine Pang of Singapore and Cebu Southwest Marathon champions Bayani Alvarez and Rhoda Oporto.

Winners in this race will qualify for next year’s ONE CEBU 550-kilometer race.

From Daanbantayan, runners will go through Bogo City, San Remigio, Tabuelan, Tuburan, Asturias, Balamban and through the treacherous Transcentral Highway en route to the finish line at the Plaza Independencia in Cebu City.

An awarding ceremony will be held right after the race. Runners who have competed in the 1st Cebu Southwest-210 kilometers, 1st Cebu Northwest-100 miles and the 2nd Cebu Northwest-100 miles will also be feted during the awarding.

The race is organized by Hardcore Events’ Edwin Colina and Rodney Cabahug.
