DORMAKABA advanced to the finals of the Architects + Engineers Basketball Association Corporate Cup as they mangled Davies Paints, 73-59, in the semifinals on Sunday at the Cebu Eastern College gym.
A 28-7 run after the first period engineered by the relentless pressure defense of Dormakaba paved the way for the lopsided rout which gave the Mechanical Engineers a spot in the best-of-three finals which starts next month.
Former league MVP Ed Macasling led Dorma’s attack with 17 points and seven rebounds while power forward Niel Benedicto had 16 markers and nine boards on top of two assists and two steals. Jordan Alano also scored in double-figures with 13 to help Dormakaba extend their tournament-long winning streak to 11 games.
Mike Cinco led Davies Paints with 20 points while Ferdinand Tiro added 11.
Dormakaba though, will have to wait for a while to find out who their finals opponent will be as Megabond edged Sea Olympus, 79-78, behind a buzzer-beating three-pointer from Martin Tabones to send their semis series to a decider. Tabones finished with 25 points while Niel Belga chipped in 16.
Ayi Armenion and Kim Rebosura led Sea Olympus with 16 points each.
The winner-take-all match for the final ticket to the championship round will be played this weekend at the same venue.
