SHS-AdC bags U-18 title in Aboitiz football tilt
THE Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Lady Eagles put up a strong showing in their final assignment of the year after they copped under-18 girls division of the 18th Aboitiz Football Cup last Saturday at the SHS-AdC football field in Barangay Canduman, Mandaue City.
The Magis Lady Eagles waxed hot in the final half to dispatch Giuseppe FC, 6–1, and seal their second crown in the tournament.
Going into the match, SHS-AdC had won the under-15 girls division title. The team also finished first runner-up in the ladies open.
Head coach Apple Bariñan said Guiseppe FC was a tough match-up for the Magis Lady Eagles.
“They scored first in the first half, but thankfully we recovered in the second half,” said Bariñan.
Sydney Gonzales and eventual Most Valuable Player (MVP) Itsuko Bacatan scored two goals each to lead SHS-AdC. Samaeka Castillo and Arantxa Trebol chipped in one goal apiece.
Trebol was named the best midfielder, while Castillo took home the best defender award.
Alexandrea Gumilao received her second best goal keeper award after she also won the same award in their U-15 girls’ campaign.
Trebol also received the golden boot award in the ladies open, while Peeve Layague was the best goal keeper.
Other awardees for SHS-AdC were Feona Avenido, who was named MVP in the under-15 girls, and Yoojin Kim, who was adjudged the best midfielder in the same division.
