In celebration of 65th anniversary of the granting of the university charter, Southwestern University Phinma introduced the first-ever Festival of Lights last December 9.

The celebration started with a motorcade of colorful lanterns from the different colleges around the metropolis.

The lantern from the Basic Education Department bagged the top prize.

Students carrying lit torches marched from the main campus on Urgello Street, Cebu City, to the Coliseum grounds, where the lighting of two huge Christmas trees and a grand fireworks display were held.

The messages of thanksgiving and hope of the three vice presidents Albert Gamboa (Operations), Gilbert Braganza (Student Life) and Dr. Gatieh Nacario (Academics) capped the lighting of the Christmas Tree ceremony.

Soon after, 11 beautiful candidates from the different colleges competed in the annual Miss SWU Phinma.

The contestants this year displayed their beauty, poise and wit in a two-hour pageant.

The College of Management and Accountancy’s bet, Cyvelshen Khesly Babatid, grabbed the coveted title at the end of the night.
