UV pug leads winners’ circle in ALA Sinulog boxing card
DOMINIQUE Casañares of University of the Visayas (UV) boxing team was among the winners in the 12 amateur bouts showcased last Sunday in the ALA Boxing Gym Sinulog Amateur Boxing Series at the Gaisano Country Mall parking area.
Casañares won over PhilAust Boxing Gym’s Mel Anthony Ando in the experienced category’s 52kg division bout by decision.
Joining him in the winners’ circle was Berland Robles of Talisay City, who escaped Patrick Gatuangco of the Cabancalan National High School by split decision in the same weight class.
In the 44kg division of the experienced category, Liloan’s John Niño Vega won by decision against Jimpol Dignos of PhilAust Boxing Gym.
In the junior’s category, Alex Santisima defeated Marco Pumar of UV in the 56kg division while the latter’s brother Marvin Pumar defeated Siquijor’s Benny Magsayo in the 50kg division via decision.
In the novice category, Talibon, Bohol’s Ramil Casañares scored a second round technical knockout (TKO) victory over Rey Abesia of PhilAust Boxing Gym in the 53kg division.
King Justy Ala Villamor, son of two-time former world title challenger Edito “ALA” Villamor, clinched a victory against Emerald Piscol of Talisay City by decision in the 44kg division.
In the 38kg division of the novice category, Talisay City’s Christian Gabriel defeated Cabancalan National High School’s Erick Miguel Austria by decision. Ryan Montrano of Bogo, North Cebu beat Roswel Nucos of Balamban, Southwest Cebu by decision under the 53kg division while David Tugot of Barangay Talamban, Cebu City trampled Clinton Pongasi of PhilAust Boxing Gym by decision in the 28kg division.
John Michael Casinto of Cabancalan won over Rodel Manego of Pagsabungan in the 21kg division via decision and Clinton Martinez of Phil-Aust Boxing Club defeated Emmanuel Galo of Lapu-Lapu City by decision in the 25kg division.
