IN HIGH spirits, Jason Canoy of the Omega Boxing Gym arrived in Cape Town, South Africa last Monday for his much-awaited world title showdown with the unbeaten Mzuvikile Magwaca.

Canoy (26W-6L-2D-19KOs) will be fighting the South African Magwaca (17W-2D-10KOs) on Friday for the World Boxing Federation (WBF) bantamweight title.

Canoy is accompanied by trainer Jing-jing Tepora and Rico Navarro, vice president of Omega Pro Sports International.

Canoy was met at the airport by no less than WFB President Howard Goldberg, according to Navarro.

After checking in at the hotel, Canoy went through the mandatory medical check-up and took a much-needed rest.

“I’m ready for the fight on Friday. There is just enough adjustment time since I arrived here three days before the fight,” said Canoy.

Canoy and his team left for South Africa last Sunday. They travelled for 10.5 hours from Cebu to Dubai via Clark then another 9.5 hours from Dubai to Cape Town.

Cape Town is six hours behind the Philippines.

“The weather is cool and pleasant. One can manage to go around without a jacket but it gets colder in the evening,” said Navarro.
