Streaking Magis Eagles start bid in SGVL Visayas

By: John Carlo Villaruel May 28,2017 - 09:22 PM

IN THIS time last year, the Sacred Heart School – Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles were still in the process of building themselves to becoming the champion team they are now.

Their success didn’t come on a silver platter as they have encountered numerous defeats, nothing more heartbreaking than their semifinal loss against the Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras in the 14th season of the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League (SGVL) – Central Visayas leg last year.

Today, the reigning Cesafi girls’ champions Magis Eagles hope to bounce back from that performance as they compete in the 15th SGVL – Central Visayas leg which opens today in the Lux Oriens Gym of SHS-AdC in Canduman, Mandaue.

The Magis Eagles, who settled for third place in last year’s SGVL, were busy in the offseason, winning titles in the 3rd JGM 17-U girls volleyball invitational tournament and the Saulog 2017 Spike Fest volleyball tournament held in Bacolod and Bohol, respectively.

But head coach Mario Sala doesn’t want the team to ponder about the past.

“Actually, we don’t think about our last year’s Shakey’s performance,” he said. “We will focus on our reception and overall defense. We saw that we lack a bit of consistency in this department.”

Among those who will join the seven-day tournament are the University of Bohol – Tagbilaran, SWU, University of Cebu, and teams from the Private Schools Developmental League.
