The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas (DSWD-7) has started distributing cash gifts worth P100,000 to the 103 centenarians in Central Visayas region.

“As of this report, 69 centenarians in Region 7 have already received the cash gift and hopefully we could finish the pay-out to the remaining centenarians by next month,” said DSWD-7 Regional Director Ma. Evelyn Macapobre.

Macapobre said that the local government units, through the Social Welfare and Development Office, identified and validated the centenarians, while the DSWD-7 facilitated the distribution of cash gifts.

Of the 103 validated centenarians, 64 are from Cebu, 35 from Bohol and 4 from Siquijor.

“We also encourage the families or relatives of the centenarian to use this cash gift for the needs of the centenarian,” said Macapobre.

This honoring and granting of additional benefits to centenarians is stipulated in Republic Act (RA) 10868 or the Centenarians Act of 2016, stating that all Filipinos, who have reached 100 years old and above, whether residing in the Philippines or abroad shall be honored with a Letter of Felicitation from the President of the Philippines congratulating the centenarian for his or her longevity and a cash gift in the amount of P100,000. /PR
