The Acai (ah-sigh-ee) berry is making a nutritional mark. Health buffs, including those in the wellness scene, are promoting it as the new superfood for its high level of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals.
The inch-long, reddish-purple fruit that comes from acai palm tree that grows abundantly in the Amazon forest is touted to address a
variety of health concerns, including arthritis, weight loss, manage cholesterol, detoxify, and as a diet supplement for general health maintenance.
Filipino couple Joseph and Catherine Salimbangon, who migrated from Cebu to Canada and the US many years ago, thought of creating a premium acai drink that will allow one to reap the benefits of this “superfood.” So in 2008, Organique Acai was launched.
During the media event held at the Pig and Palm, Catherine, a registered nurse who previously worked in a healthcare institution in California, said, “It’s not all about the money. We consider Organique as an advocacy.”
Promising high-quality and healthy products, for Organique Acai, Catherine claims they make sure the berries are meticulously screened to be processed and bottled in a state-of-the-art facility in California.
According to Organique Inc. marketing director Lerma Mendoza, the acai berry supplement Organique Acai is the only Filipino local brand that has a USDA certification.
“We started introducing the premium blend late last year. This is to formally launch the product in Cebu and introduce the capsule form,” Mendoza added.
She said the acai berry capsules, a recent addition to their line of products, are ideal for those who became patrons of the premium blend, so they can take the supplement wherever they go, in a more convenient manner.
In an acronym, Mendoza sums up the benefits of Organique’s Acai premium blend:
