Former San Beda Red Cub hotshot Daryl Nazareno tries to spark what has been a stalled basketball career as he suits up for the rebuilding Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma Cobras in the upcoming Cesafi basketball wars.
And this early, Nazareno admitted that he already has his eyes on SWU’s bitter rivals, the reigning Cesafi champions University of the Visayas (UV).
“I can’t wait to face UV since we feel that they are the dominant team this season,” Nazareno said. “And we want to show the fans that we can beat them.”
Once considered to be one of the country’s brightest high school stars, having played in the inaugural National High School All-Star Game back in 2012, Nazareno’s career has since swirled around like a tornado, making stops in San Beda College’s Team B and the University of San Carlos (USC) before finally touching down in SWU-Phinma last year.
Feeling that he has finally found a suitable home, Nazareno is eager to remind basketball fans and observers alike of his capabilities.
“I’m excited to play once again and show them my talent,” said Nazareno.
Two years has passed since Nazareno played varsity basketball and he professes that his game has grown in leaps and bounds since then.
“My game has improved a lot, especially with regards to my maturity,” said the proud son of Tisa, Cebu City. “I’ve learned to curtail my bad habits on the floor.”
SWU needs every bit of Nazareno’s contributions, especially after losing reinforcement Quintin Nzusi and former two-time league MVP Mac Tallo during the offseason. The aforementioned departures open up tons of opportunities for the likes of Nazareno and seasoned veteran Jun Luz.
