The San Remigio Properties Invitational Basketball Tournament comes off the wraps today with the two Ateneo squads – the Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles and the Ateneo de Manila Blue Eaglets – looking to assert themselves against older competition over at the Magis Eagles Arena inside the Ateneo de Cebu campus in Canduman, Mandaue City.
The four-time Cesafi juniors champions Magis Eagles kick things off with a match against the Western Leyte College Mustangs at 5:30 p.m. before the Eaglets, bannered by 7-foot, 15-year-old Kai Sotto, takes the court against the Colegio de Sta. Ana of Victorias at 7 p.m.
All eyes will be on Sotto, who claimed Rookie of the Year honors in the UAAP last season before starring for the Batang Gilas in the Seaba Under-16 tournament that was held in Manila.
Another prominent name that will showcase his skills in front of the Cebuano crowd is SJ Belanguel, the Negros-bred scorer who torched opposing defenses for 15.7 points, 10 rebounds, 5.9 assists, and 1.4 steals per outing.
The tournament will see the teams playing a single round-robin with the top two teams advancing to the one-game finals.
