THE 2002 Lions are halfway through to capturing the championship in Division 3 of the University of San Carlos North Alumni Basketball Conference Summer League 2 Powered by Common Ground after they grounded the 2008 Flyboys, 94-83, on Sunday at the USC North Campus gym.

Former two-time Cesafi MVP Enrico Llanto played once again like a man amongst boys as he nearly piled up a rare triple double, scoring 38 points, pulling down 19 rebounds and issuing seven assists. The former King Warrior also had a steal and two blocked shots in an incredible show of force that gave the Lions a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series.

Joel Dinawanao had 13, James Tagalog added 12 and Jose Ruiz chipped in 11 to complement Llanto’s stellar numbers.

For the Flyboys, it’s back to the drawing board as they sorely missed the services of star Nico Magat. Nilton Otida led the way for the Flyboys with 22 points, eight boards, three assists, two steals and two blocks. John Cabellon had 17.

The Lions will try to wrap the series up in Game 2 on Friday at the same venue.
