CEBUANA star-spiker Cherry Ann Rondina and the rest of the Philippine men’s and women’s beach volleyball squads left for Singapore yesterday afternoon to compete in the 29th Southeast Asian Beach Volleyball Championships set on Sept. 28 to 30.

Rondina, who hails from Compostela, Cebu, will be teaming up with Bernadeth Pons of the Far Eastern University in leading the Philippine women’s team A while Fiola Ceballos and Patty Orendain will headline the women’s team B.

“I feel blessed to be chosen as one of the players na mag-rerepresent sa Pilipinas and thankful kasi may tiwala sila sa akin and sa amin. Hopefully by God’s grace sana maganda ang result ng ligang to,” Rondina told Cebu Daily News.

Calling the shots for the national team will be the former University of Sto. Tomas (UST) mentor Emil Lontoc, who came out of retirement to coach the squad.

Meanwhile, Anthony Arbasto of UST and FEU’s Jude Garcia will represent the country in the men’s tournament, which will feature 15 teams from eight competing countries.
