Cebuana tennis phenom Tiffany Claire Nocos didn’t show any signs of fatigue as she walked away as the biggest winner by completing a twin kill in the 3rd CitiGreen Junior Tennis Cup yesterday at the CitiGreen Tennis Resort in Barangay Punta Princesa, Cebu City.
The Lapu-Lapu City native Nocos started the cloudy day blazing as she toppled Casey Padilla, 6-3, 6-3, to secure the girls’ 12-Under plum.
But her biggest win came in the girls’ 14-U finals, where the 12-year-old shrugged off a late fightback from Corazon Lambonao to hack out a 6-2, 6-4 triumph.
Nocos seemed headed for an easy victory against Lambonao after taking the opening set but a series of errors midway through the second saw her 4-2 lead vanish as her opponent managed to knot the game at 4 all.
But that was all the visiting Lambonao from Ormoc City could come up with as Nocos took the last two points to seal the victory.
“I just focused on my game because I really had a lot of errors in the second set,” the soft-spoken Nocos said.
Meanwhile, VJ Cañete defeated Gio Manito, 4-2, 4-0, for the 10-unisex title while Cebuana Elizabeth Abarquez pounded Pherl Coderos, 6-2, 6-2, for the 16-U title.
In other games, Cagayan de Oro’s Janelle Carmela Llaore overcame a second set hiccup to beat Ellaine Bahonsua, 6-2, 3-6, 10-5, and bag the premier 18-U girls’ trophy.
Nash Agustines took the 12-U boys crown after crushing Mitch Largo, 6-3, 6-2.
