The public elementary and high schools in the mountain barangay of Cantipla in Cebu City lost at least P10, 000 worth of cash and valuables to burglars who would break into their classrooms and other offices at nighttime.

The schools property custodians also reported damage to property amounting to P10,000 which resulted from the destruction of windows, doors, ceilings and walls to gain entry into the affected classrooms, library and canteen.

“(We) request for tanod/police visibility in our school for safety in our school premises and provide security for government-owned equipment (that are kept within our premises),” said an incident report submitted by property custodians Cecilia Libatan and Jocelyn Bitor.

The two said that nobody is detailed to secure their school premises at night time.

A copy of their report was furnished to Cebu City Councilor Joy Augustus Young, the council’s education committee chairman, who also posted the said report on his Facebook page on Tuesday afternoon.

The report posted on Young’s FB page showed that the burglary incidences happened from December 22, 2017 to January 2, 2018 and resulted to the loss of proceeds from their canteen and sinking funds kept on some classrooms amounting to a total of P9, 859.

Another 20 kilos of rice amounting to P600 that was supposed to be set aside for their schools feeding program was also declared missing.
