Tomas willing to face plaint on dispute in court
Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña said he is ready to face any complaint to be filed against him in relation to his confrontation with court sheriff El Cid Caballes in Barangay Capitol Site last week.
Osmeña was adamant that his actions weren’t violent since he is only defending the settlers.
“I was defending government property and defending a government property is not promoting violence. It’s just like saying having the Armed Forces of the Philippines is promoting violence. As the mayor, it is my duty and obligation to defend life and property,” the Mayor said.
A video that went viral in social media showed Osmeña and Caballes in a heated argument in Sitio Sta. Cruz Barangay Capitol Site.
The residents of the site asked the mayor’s help after the sheriff allegedly forced them to leave the area even when their houses were built on the lot owned by the national government.
City Councilor Pastor Alcover said in a privilege speech in last Tuesday’s City Council session that he will seek the Ombudsman’s legal opinion on the incident.
