The Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws continue to find another gem from the south as they secured the commitment of Cebu Eastern College (CEC) standout James Tempra.

Tempra, a versatile 6-foot-4 forward, who earned a spot in the Cesafi’s Mythical Five in the high school division back in 2016, is expected to arrive on campus to join the Tamaraws on April 2.

The Cebuano formalized his commitment to the school after meeting with FEU’s Athletic Director Mark Molina and assistant coach, Ryan Betia, on Monday morning. He was flanked in that meeting by CEC consultant, Mark Tallo, the father of Talk N Text KaTropa guard Mark Jayven Tallo.

The news of Tempra’s successful recruitment comes on the heels of Adamson’s enlistment of former two-time Cesafi junior MVP, Jed Colonia, as Cebu continues to be a hotbed for basketball prospects.

Tempra is the latest of the long line of FEU recruits from the Cesafi. This includes Talk N Text’s Alfrancis Tamsi, Monbert Arong and Roger Ray Pogoy and Blackwater big man Raymar Jose, who ironically comes from CEC as well. Current Tamaraws to come from the Cesafi include Jasper Parker, Ron Dennison and Kevin Barkley Ebona.

Tempra said that out of all the schools that were pursuing him, he chose FEU for the way their treat their student-athletes.

“It’s not because of their offer nor is it just because of the prestige of the school. Rather, it’s how they’ve treated me and their student-athletes and the opportunity they have presented me with,” shared the left-handed prospect.

Betia, meanwhile, explained that they were hot on the heels of Tempra for his versatility and his size.

“He reminds us of a Jeff Chan in terms of versatility. He also has a little of Raymar Jose in him with regards to toughness,” said Betia, who sough to express gratitude to CEC athletic director John Maraat and Assistant Director for Administration, Dr. Sotero Cabanes, for allowing them to recruit Tempra.
