Cebuano riders vie in Asian MTB Series
TWO CEBUANO riders from the Keith DeFiebre Cycling team will strut their wares in today’s Asian Mountain Bike Series – East Ridge Sandugo International Mountain Bike Challenge in Binangonan, Rizal.
Pamela Jane Ruiz, a 17-year-old Grade 12 student of Academia del Christifidelis in Liloan town, competes in the Junior Women’s category, a new addition to the race. It will be her first time to join a Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI)-sanctioned race.
The other Cebuanos in the team is 36-year-old Dongkey Sanchez, who will be competing in the 30-39 Age-Group.
According to team owner Keith DeFiebre, an American cyclist, Sanchez won 34 races while Ruiz bagged 12 wins as the team totalled 75 wins in last year alone.
DeFiebre, a native of California, USA, sees a lot of potential in his riders, particularly Ruiz.
“She’s really proud to represent Cebu and the Philippines. She could be one of the best ever women’s finishers from the Philippines,” DeFiebre said.
This weekend, the team will also compete in the Sagay MTB Circuit Race in Negros.
Other Cebuanos in today’s race are Talisay City’s Jun Duron and Danao City’s Niño Surban.
