The STAR Taekwondo team face the judges in this videograb from the ABS-CBN website.

From the rubber mat to the shining limelight, the STAR Taekwondo Poomsae team don’t seem to lack luster at all.

The internationally renowned poomsae jins of Coach Glenn Lava impressed judges with their exhilarating performance in ABS-CBN’s weekend talent show Pilipinas Got Talent (PGT) that was aired Saturday night.

Performing a routine that highlighted the sharp forms and stunts of the ancient Korean martial art combined with a few dance moves to complement, the STAR jins left the judges at awe and earned four nods to advance to the next round.

The STAR Taekwondo team is composed of Lee Robiegayle Navales, Aidaine Laxa, Dennis Francis Arquero, Xander Palacpac, Cheyena dela Fuente, Nohea Dela Fuente, Alyssa Lou Llenes, Jon Alexander Llenes, Germaine Besanes, and Chia Besanes.

Their thrilling performance was something new in the show, which is why the all-star judge lineup of Freddie “FMG” Garcia, Angel Locsin, Vice Ganda, and Robin Padilla gave the team positive feedback.

“We’ve really been looking for new arts and you have done really well in dancing the martial art (taekwondo),” Garcia told them after their performance.

“May angas, may emosyon, may gigil,” Locsin said of the young Cebuano jins. “Kung mag pu-produce ako ng pelikula ng mga young action stars, kayo ang kukunin ko.”

Six of 10 of the STAR crew are members of the Philippine National Taekwondo Team and the others recently competed in the 2018 Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (Cviraa) Meet in Tagbilaran City.

“They grew to be more independent (kids) by bringing out their best through self discipline and motivation in order to develop their skills more and good attitude towards other people,” Lava, who is their coach and choreographer, told Cebu Daily News.
Vice Ganda said that he was impressed with the performance of the team, especially with the girls.

“Nabighani ako, nakuha niyo ka agad ang loob ko,” the 41-year-old comedian said. “Nakumbinsi niyo ako agad, lalo na ang mga babae, na kayang-kaya niyong gawin iyan. Sa panahon ngayon, karapatan at obligasyon na ng mga babae ang ipagtanggol ang mga sarili nila.”

Padilla, an action star, highlighted the difficulty of the kids’ routine, saying it not an easy task at all.

“Gusto ko lang ipaliwanag sa lahat ng mga nanonood dito na mahirap yang ginagawa ninyo,” Padilla said.
