Cebu’s woes on the lack of playing venues will soon be addressed with the Dynamic HERB Sports Inc. working round the clock to have its more than 12,000 square meters sporting complex fully operational before the last quarter of the year.

The sporting complex, which is located at the South Road Properties, houses two FIFA-standard size playing fields — an outdoor playing field, an indoor gymnasium and dedicated facilities such as rooms for teams, clubs and sporting organizations to hold seminars and workshops.

In an email sent to the media by Astrid Erasga, Dynamic HERB Sports Inc.’s marketing and communications executive, the subsoil base preparations for the astro turf installation is already 80 percent done for the multi-purpose outdoor field. They are expecting to start installing the turf within the next four weeks, depending on the weather.

The multi-purpose playing field, which is Phase 1 of the project, is expected to be done in three months time.

Erasga added that they are also currently in negotiations with companies and corporations for the naming rights of both the outdoor stadium and the indoor arena.

During the launching of the project last year, Ugur Tasci, the managing director of Dynamic HERB Sports Inc., said they thought of the facility to contribute to the lifestyle, tourism and sports in Cebu. He had added then that they are building the facility because they also wanted to create an opportunity for Cebu to host not only local sporting events but national and international competitions as well.

At the moment, Cebu does not have state-of-the-art sporting facilities. Cebuanos have had to contend with the Cebu City Sports Center and the New Cebu Coliseum, which are already decades old, and the grounds and gyms of universities and colleges.
