The Cebu Provincial Health Office (PHO) is asking Cebuanos to make blood donations to make sure that the four provincial hospitals will have enough supply for its patients.
Dr. Rene Catan, PHO head said, the provincial hospitals located in the cities of Danao and Bogo in northern Cebu and Carcar in the south, and Balamban town in the midwestern part of the province only get around 100 bags of blood for their daily use.
Catan said they need to make sure that there is a buffer stock to address a possible rise in the demand for blood transfusion.
In the past, patients admitted in provincial hospitals would get blood supply from the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC).
This year, Catan said they wanted to make sure that provincial hospitals have enough blood supplies.
Those who wanted to make blood donations are encouraged to call the Cebu provincial government through mobile numbers 09224112994 or 09054288870 to set their donation schedules.
Walk-in donors will also be accommodated at their nearest provincial hospitals.
Donors should be at least 18-years-old, healthy, with no existing infection and did not undergo a recent tooth extraction.
Catan said that the donated blood will be made to undergo screening by the Sacred Heart Hospital before this will be added into Capitol’s supply.
“Blood donation should be a regular activity. It should be a habit,” Catan said.
