TWO of the three candidates for the presidency of the Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) in Cebu City continue to play it coy concerning their bid for the post.

Incumbent ABC-Cebu City president and Tisa Barangay Captain Philip Zafra said he may not seek re-election while Mabolo Barangay Captain Niña Mabatid said she may run for the post after all.

Both barangay captains clarified that their plans are not yet final just three days ahead of the elections for the ABC presidency which allows the winner to sit in the Cebu City Council.

On their official Facebook page, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Cebu City office confirmed that the elections will be held next Monday but had yet to announce a venue for the activity.

Zafra was endorsed by Barug Team Rama-PDP Laban while Kasambagan Barangay Captain Franklyn Ong is the official candidate of the local administration party Bando Osmeña-Pundok Kauswagan (BO-PK).

Mabatid claimed that the Office of the President endorsed her to run for the ABC-Cebu City presidency.

With only 30 out of 80 barangays captains allied with Barug, Zafra said it may unwise for him to seek reelection.

Zafra had been ABC-Cebu City president for five years since the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections had been postponed twice.

In case she runs for the post, Mabatid said she will be an independent. “And no, I have no intentions to transfer to (Barug Team Rama),” she said.
