University of Cebu, Senior High School, Arts and Design, presents Trapik – a trilogy of plays.

Trapik – a trilogy of plays, written and directed by Mr. Emman Mante and produced by University of Cebu Senior High Arts and Design Grade 12 students in collaboration with the Unified Artists of Cebu.

The three plays is inspired by true events that center on the experiences of human trafficking survivors. The plays serve its purpose of giving people awareness on human trafficking that will lay down the versions of reality and scratch off the surface of unraveling the truth. The first play is entitled “ATE”, when the idealistic social worker, Jace, crosses path with Jovie, a minor, and a victim of human trafficking and prostitution. As he tries to fulfill his mission to help the girl, Jace also retraces his own life and soon discovers the darkest dephts of atrocities that mankind is capable of; the second play is entitled “CHERRY BLOSSOM ESKAPO”, set in Japan, a young woman, Sarah, aims to provide a better life for her family, goes to Japan to find work, only to learn that she is recruited as a guest relations offer (GRO) at a club in Japan. Escaping from the maltreatment and abuse of its Filipino club owner, she goes to seek for refuge in the most unexpected of places, and in the most unexpected of people; the last play entitled “EVA HAMOK”, born and brought up in the countryside, Eva has bold aspirations of going beyond the life she used to have. She soon recieves news that grants her wishes: a match and a wedding with an American National. Will this be the happy ending she has longed for all her life?

The Cebuano original play is written in bisaya. It also captured the attention of the Manila crowd, translated into the Filipino language, which was first staged last February 2018 as an official entry of the Fringe Manila Arts Festival 2018 produced by theatre Master students in UP Diliman. This production is launched as part of the internship of the Grade 12 Arts and Design Students of University of Cebu. They are taking roles on the production which are divided into three parts- creative, technical and business team. The aim of this academic endeavor is to expose the students into a semi-professional production outfit through their actual practice in connection to their theatre arts track. It will be staged this coming July 28 and 29 (10am, 1pm, 4pm and 7pm) at the AVR, University of Cebu Senior High School building, Alcantara st. Cebu city.
