The Land Transportation Office (LTO) regional office said it will assist the Cebu City police in investigating vehicle-related crimes.
During the launching of Cebu City’s bike patrol team Senior Supt. Royina Garma, Cebu City police chief, said the agency will help them identify suspects by examining the records of the vehicle’s plate number.
Garma said the LTO will provide them the ownership records based on the plate number reported. “How can we coordinate with LTO if we do not have any plate number given by the witnesses?,” she said.
But when asked about the location of the Mitsubishi Pajero used by the perpetrators in the killing of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA–7) officer Von Rian Tecson, Garma said they have not received any reports so far
“Carcar is not my area of responsibility, but if the Carcar City police think it concerns Cebu City then they can coordinate with us,” she said.
LTO Regional Director Victor Caindec also confirmed that coordination with the police is centralized and they can easily provide documents if requested.
“It’s highly possible that the perpetrators used fake plates. I don’t think they would use a regular plate,” he said. /Gerard Vincent Francisco, USJ-R Intern
