DPWH-7 to repair gaps found on north U-turn slot

HEAVY 3-DAY TRAFFIC AT SRP

Expect heavy traffic for three days in the Cebu South Coastal Road (CSCR) starting this Friday, Sept. 14 as the expressway’s north U-turn slot will be closed to pave way for repairs.

It will be opened back to traffic between 4 a.m. to 5 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 17.

As a result, the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) advised motorists to stretch their patience, and take the alternate routes once repairs of the north U-turn will start.

Francisco Ouano, CCTO chief, said in a press conference yesterday that vehicles bound for Cebu City from the south will have to turn left to F. Vestil Street to access Barangay Mambaling.

“We will be removing the railings on the corner of F. Vestil Street and CSCR once the U-turn slot will be closed so that vehicles bound for downtown Cebu City can make a left turn to Mambaling,” Ouano explained.

“This is why we’re asking the public to bear with us momentarily since the repairs are meant to avoid bigger problems in the future,” he added.

Gaps need to be filled

Ouano said the Department of Public Works and Highways-7 (DPWH-7) will be filling the gaps found in CSCR’s north U-turn slot.

Buses from the southern towns and cities of Cebu province usually traverse through the U-turn slot, which is located at one end of the viaduct connecting mainland Cebu City to the South Road Properties (SRP), to get to Cebu South Bus Terminal in N. Bacalso Ave.

Citing DPWH-7’s observations, Ouano said large vehicles such as buses and trucks using the U-turn slot led to the formation of gaps within it.

He said lots of vehicles from southern Cebu use the U-turn slot to access Mambaling to avoid the traffic in N. Bacalso Ave. which is still being closed due to the construction of an underpass project there.

He added that DPWH-7 is targetting to finish the repairs for two and a half days.

Ouano said that nine CCTO personnel and one patrol car will be deployed to man the traffic near the U-turn slot and the intersection of CSCR and F. Vestil Street.
