Phelps Dodge, Econtech get twice-to-beat edge
PHELPS Dodge and Econtech head to the quarterfinals armed with a twice-to-beat advantage after they won over their respective opponents in the Cebu Architects’ Basketball Club 2nd Corporate Cup last Sunday at the Benedicto College Technical Vocational School basketball court.
Econtech downed Boysen Paints, 64-60, while Phelps Dodge survived Metrotiles in overtime, 83-79.
Econtech’s win boosted their record up to 3-2 (win-loss). They will face off against the very same Boysen Paints squad with the latter needing to beat the former twice in order to advance to the semifinals, where the top-seeded Davies Paints and AAC Light Strong await.
Michael Judilla led the way for Econtech with 17 points, Mark Berdin added 14 while Justin Aspacio chipped in 13.
Phelps Dodge, meanwhile, got 20 from Lemuel Aspacio and 16 points, nine rebounds and six assists from Chester Hinagdanan to carry the team to the thrilling win.
As with the other quarterfinal clash, these very same two teams will meet this Sunday with Phelps Dodge needing only to win once to advance.
