JONAS Magpantay defied the odds in the game that mattered most as he outlasted his championship title-bearing foe in snaring the plum of the 2014 Kiosk Valentine 9-Ball Handicapping billiard tournament last Sunday at the Kiosk 8-Ball Billiards Hall along Osmeña Boulevard.
Magpantay, who belonged to the last four qualifiers for the round of 16 sudden death finals alongside Anton Raga, Alan Milan and Kamel Picase, defeated the more popular Raga in their race-to-eight battle, 8-6, to snare the championship title.
Magpantay, who qualified for the round of 16 sudden death finals during the 2014 Kiosk Billliard Sinulog 9-Ball Handicapping Tournament but failed to win the title, took home P15,000 cash and a trophy, while Raga received P5,000 cash.
Milan settled for the third place, while Picase landed in the fourth spot. Both received P1,500.
The other qualifiers in the round of 16 were Allan Milan Sr., Eljun Abellana, Genesis Ouano, Ricky Etang, Edward Borinaga, Anton Raga, Sean Mark, Carlo Digal, Crisanto Basnillo, Allan Milan, Jr., Richie Taborada and Redimar Revo David. /Correspondent JADE S. VIOLETA
