Cebuanos Elizabeth Abarquez and David Ezra Enriquez accounted for two of the 12 gold medals that the Filipinos clinched in the 38th Tuanku Syed Putra (PERLIS-MILO) International Junior Tennis Championships held in Perlis, Indonesia over the weekend.

Abarquez bagged the 18 Girls Singles title after thrashing fellow Filipino Princess Debbie Gom-os, 6-1, 6-2, while Enriquez dismissed Malaysia’s Muhammad Annas Malik, 15-5, 15-9, to take the 8 Boys Singles title.

Abarquez of Carcar City, Cebu and Enriquez of Pardo, Cebu City are part of the Citigreen junior tennis team that is competing in three international events in Southeast Asia.

They qualified to the team after winning in the Globe Citigreen Junior Tennis Cup 2018 last October.

Abarquez also fished a gold in the 18 Girls Doubles after partnering with Gom-os and being the only duo undefeated after three rounds.

The Philippines’ other gilts in the singles events were contributed by Brent Signmond Cortes, who streaked past Thailand’s Mesa Sarawut, 6-2, 6-1, in the 14 Boys Singles; and Jose Maria Pague, who took the 18 Boys Singles title via a 6-3, 6-2 outsmarting of fellow Filipino Nilo Ledama.

The doubles gold medal were handed in by the tandem of Ma. Judy Ann Padilla and Tenielle Madis who routed the Korean pair of Kim Min So and Lee Chaerin, 6-1, 6-2, for the 12 Girls Doubles title; Cortes paired with Angil Balaoing to bag the 14 Boys Doubles title via a 6-1, 6-0 dismissal of Malaysia’s Ahmad Fahmi and Edy Al-Amin; and Pague and Ledama came together for the 18 Boys Doubles title to lambast the pair of Bekhzod Rassamatov of Russia and Chaiyaward Phetthani of Thailand, 6-1, 6-0.

Daveaine Gauran also added a gilt after partnering with Korea’s Heewon Ju to pocket the 10 Girls Doubles title against China’s Zhang Xuetong and Han Yabing, 6-1, 6-2.
