3 ways to conserve water

No less than the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) has revealed zero water supply from the Buhisan Dam and near critical level at the Jaclupan facility, a result of the El Niño weather phenomenon that Cebu is experiencing.

Recent aerial pictures of the Buhisan Dam showed that the water dried up leaving only cracked soil. This has led to scarce and limited water supply in Cebu.

CDN Digital’s Earth Hour series is a way of educating the public about the planet’s finite resources and what we can do to conserve and protect them.

Here are some ways on how you can help conserve water:

Reduce your water usage
Do not keep your water running while washing dishes or any kitchen materials. Observe shorter shower time period so you can save water.  Practice the habit of turning off your faucet while you brush your teeth. Studies show that this simple act can save up to 6 liters of water per minute.

Repair leaks
Check all your plumbing fixtures such as faucets, toilets and shower heads. Do not let small leaks stay unfixed over a long period of time. Unattended leaks waste up to 200 gallon a day!

Join Cebu City’s clean-up drive
The Cebu City Government, through the the Cebu City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CCENRO), has conducted a citywide clean-up drive of several rivers and beaches in an effort to conserve our natural resources. Check out the schedules for the river clean-ups and invite your friends to spend a Saturday for volunteer work.

With the growing population and limited water supply, it is high time for us to heed nature’s plea: take care of me. Earth is the planet we live in so let us be protective of our natural resources.
