Cebu City, Philippines—Mandaue City repeated over the Consolacion Sarok Weavers, 83-68, to emerge as the 6th District champion in the 2019 Governor’s Cup basketball tournament on Monday night, April 8, 2019,  at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex.

The squad of head coach Gary Cortes thus bagged the P100,000 cash prize and will have a ton of momentum heading to the quarterfinal round that begins on April 10.

After a close first period that saw Mandaue lead by just two, the flood gates opened for the hosts as they uncorked a 27-12 blast anchored on the playmaking of wily guard Gabriel Cometa, who scored 13 of his game-high 33 points during that pivotal stretch that placed Mandaue City ahead, 39-22.

Mandaue kept their wits about them the rest of the way and cruised to the dominant win.

Archie Buscay added 12 points while Art Marco chipped in 11 to offset yet another dismal scoring performance by ace forward Kenneth Brillo, who managed just eight points.
