CEBU CITY, Philippines – Learning disaster preparedness can also be made fun.
Apo Land and Quarry Corp. (ALQC) through its Barangay Alerto 24 program came up with a board game that will teach disaster preparedness especially to public school children.
Barangay Alerto 24 is a holistic and comprehensive program on disaster preparedness that will be implemented in Naga City with the support of CEMEX Philippines Foundation.
ALQC commissioned the Asia Society for Social Improvement and Sustainable Transformation (ASSIST) to design the board game to raise awareness among children on disaster and emergency preparedness.
Some 250 Grades 4 and 5 students from the CEPOC Central Elementary School in Barangay Tina-an joined the soft launch of ALQC’s Barangay Alerto 24 program on March 19.
The participants enjoyed playing the board game while at the same time learning the basic concepts of the different emergency situations and the corresponding techniques to avoid disaster.
ALQC will formally introduce the board game to other public schools in Naga City upon the full roll-out of the project./dcb
