Cebu City, Philippines — The most awaited debate between the candidates for mayor for Cebu City — Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña and his rival Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella — has been moved from April 22 to May 6.

Lawyer Regal Oliva, Integrated Bar of the Philippines Cebu City Chapter (IBP Cebu City Chapter) president, announced in his Facebook page the change of schedule for the debate organized by the IBP Cebu City Chapter.

The debates, however, will still be held at the City Sports Club at 1 p.m. on May 6.

Regal said that they were moving the scheduled debate to a later date as a way of respect to the candidates as they commemorate the Holy Week.

“The Board of Officers (IBP Cebu City Chapter) decided to give way and respect the candidates’ commemoration of the Holy Week. We do not want them to be preparing for the debates instead of reflecting during the holy days as we culminate the Lenten Season,” he said in his FB post.

“We moved the dates to be nearer to the elections so as to be more comprehensive and significant with our topics and guide the people of Cebu on the candidates’ stands, advocacies and opinions on matters faced by the City,” the post further said.| dbs
