Cebuano Kenny Rogers Rocacurva now a Letran Knight
Cebu City, Philippines —Talented Cebuano wingman Kenny Rogers Rocacurva is making his way to Letran to join a Knights squad that is looking to regain its elite status in the NCAA.
Arguably the most talented prospect to come out of Cebu in past years, the former Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcat played just one season in the Cesafi.
In spite being just a rookie, the Camotes Island-native flourished to become an All Star and not long after, was recruited by assistant coach, former pro Lou Gatumbato.
He also made his name known during the Governor’s Cup basketball tournament in 2018, where he led his San Francisco team to a runner-up finish.
Rocacurva said he chose Letran because of its colorful basketball history.
“It’s a good opportunity for me to join a strong team. And I’m comfortable being a part of this team,” said Rocacurva who is already playing for the Knights in the 25th Fr. Martin’s Cup.
“I’m happy where I am right now and I am looking forward to improving my skills here and enjoying my experience in this new environment,” he added.
Gatumbato reported that Rocacurva is still adjusting to the style of basketball being played in Manila.
“He’s okay, he can play, maybe he is not yet accustomed to the type of play here in Manila but we are expecting him to adjust and adapt to our system soon. Also, with the exposure he will get during his residency period, we are confident he can compete with our present top players here in Manila,” Gatumbato said.
“Letran school spearheaded by the San Miguel Group is really aggressive in recruiting players who can help build our team. Hopefully he would be of great help to us that would make us contenders or even become champions in the NCAA,” he added. /bmjo
