Businessmen seek greater public participation in rebuilding effort

By: Aileen Garcia-Yap March 25,2014 - 11:29 AM

The devastation caused by the Oct. 15 earthquake and the Nov. 8 supertyphoon Yolanda has driven the business community to appeal for greater public participation in the reconstruction of the damaged towns and cities.

The Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) is making this appeal as it holds its 26th Visayas Annual Membership Meeting today at the Casino Espanol with the theme “Moving As One.”

The event includes a business forum which continues the discussion in its Annual Membership Meeting held in Manila on disaster response and rebuilding efforts of other agencies in Yolanda-affected areas.

The invited panelists include Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III, the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. (RAFI) on behalf of the Mega Cebu Project, representatives from the Philippine Disaster Recovery Foundation (PDRF), Presidential Assistant for Rehabilitation and Recovery (PARR), Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Ma. Teresa Chan and key officials from the Philippine Contractors Association (PCA). Melanie Ng of Ng Khai Development Corp., Jose Levi Villanueva of Union Bank and Cebu Daily News publisher and acting Editor-in-chief Eileen G. Mangubat will moderate the discussion.

The event starts at 1 p.m. and ends at 5 p.m. and is expected to draw 300 participants.
