3 Cebuanas top med tech board exams

Three Cebuanas made it to the top ten in the medical technologists’ board examination held last March.
Sheila Magallanes (6th place) and Jessah April Naingue (9th place) are from the Southwestern University (SWU) while Tesio (7th place) is from the Cebu Doctors University (CDU).
Magallanes, with an average of 88.70 percent, said hard work, prayers, and support from her family had helped in her achievement.
“This is all unexpected. I felt all the pressure before and during the examination,” she said.
Magallanes, a 21-year-old native of Tabunok, Talisay City, graduated magna cum laude on May 2013 and was valedictorian in elementary and high school. She is the youngest child, her father is a pastor while her mother is a school principal.
“Don’t waste time, grab the opportunity and always pray to God. These are the secrets to success,” Magallanes added.
Naingue, a close friend of Magallanes, placed 9th with 88.3 percent.
The 20-year-old from Compostela graduated cum laude in 2013.
“Kung wala si God dili nako ni makuha tanan. Magpasalamat sad ko sa akong family and friends nga nitabang nako,” Naingue said. (I wouldn’t have achieved this without God, my family and friends.)
Facebook and getaways with her college friends distracted her during the review and she is glad she made it to the top.
“I didn’t aim for top ten. All I wanted was to pass the examination,” Naingue added.
Meanwhile, Tesio was the only examinee from CDU in the March 2014 board exam for medical technologists.
Landing 7th with 88.5 percent, she did not expect to be in the top 10 since she was not an achiever from elementary until college.
“Dili sobra mag salig sa self pag-ayo, dili modako ang ulo and dapat pirmi mag-ampo mao nay sekreto sa success,” said the 20-year-old topnotcher from Naga City. (We shouldn’t be overly confident or boastful, and must always be prayerful.)
The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) announced the results last Thursday.
There were 885 who passed out of the 1,252 examinees.
