‘Domeng’ in Cebu by Wednesday – Pagasa

Inquirer.net April 07,2014 - 09:50 AM

Tropical Storm “Domeng” (international name Peipah) may make landfall on Wednesday near the areas of previously typhoon-hit areas in northern Mindanao, the state weather bureau said on Sunday.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) forecasts Domeng to be in the vicinity of Cebu City on Wednesday afternoon.

Domeng was last tracked 1,020 kilometers of General Santos City as of 5 p.m. yesterday packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour, according to Pagasa’s 5 p.m., April 6, 2014 weather bulletin.

By Monday afternoon, it is forecast to be 570 kilometers east of Davao City and 180 kilometers east of Surigao City by Tuesday afternoon.

It entered the Philippine area of responsibility on Sunday night, Meno Mendoza of Pagasa told INQUIRER.net.

Mendoza said that moderate to heavy rains (5 mm to 15 mm per hour) would fall within the 400-kilometer diameter of the storm. The storm is forecast to move west northwest at 20 kph.

Although it is not of  the same scale as typhoon Yolanda, which battered Eastern Visayas last year, Mendoza said that Domeng could still intensify into a typhoon if it remains at sea.
Meanwhile, the tail-end of a cold-front affecting extreme Northern Luzon, Central and Eastern Visayas, Mindanao and the regions of Cagayan Valley, will have cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms, Pagasa said.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over northern and eastern section of the country and the coastal waters along this area will be moderate to rough.
Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the northeast to east with slight to moderate seas./with Inquirer Reports
