Cebu City, Philippines—Also known, as “the hairy fruit”, the rambutan is a popular fruit native to Southeast Asian countries, including the Philippines.

Rambutan is actually considered one of the favorites for locals because of its sweet taste. (It is known as the hairy fruit because of its hairy shell.)

In Cebu, one can buy a quarter of a kilo at the Public Market outside the Archdiocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes in F. Llamas Street in Barangay Punta Princesa for P25.00.

According to the website healthline.com, rambutan is rich in fiber, vitamin C and copper and contains smaller amounts of other nutrients.

Its peel and seed are also full of nutrients but generally considered inedible, though. /bmjo
