The regional office of the Department of Health (DOH-7) reminded the public to remain vigilant against dengue whenever they stock up on water during summer.
“Even if it’s not the rainy season, people should be careful about where and how they store water because it may get stagnant and attract dengue-carrying mosquitoes,” Regional Director Jaime Bernadas said.
He said dengue cases in Central Visayas went down by 81.7 percent in the first quarter of the year compared to the same period last year.
Bernadas said the DOH recorded 1,150 dengue cases in Central Visayas compared to 6,294 cases with 21 deaths last year.
Cebu City recorded the most number of dengue cases with 216, followed by Lapu-Lapu City,122; Minglanilla, 38; Talisay City, 32; Carcar City, 22 and Naga, 19.
Two deaths were recorded each in Cebu City and Minglanilla town.
Bernadas credited the low dengue incidence to their intensified information campaign on the disease and elimination of breeding grounds of dengue-carrying mosquitoes.
