Cops link arrested men to Vice Mayor’s nephew’s killing
Police claimed that the series of carnapping and the robbery incident involving a friend of Cebu City Mayor Mike Rama as well as the fatal shooting of a nephew of Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella are considered solved after police finally arrested the suspects.
Carjacking and three counts of robbery with physical injury will be filed against Manuel Richards Corominas and his 14-year-old companion, Jerry (not his real name).
Police officers from the Cebu City Police Office-City Intelligence Branch (CIB) and Parian Police Station arrested the two at dawn Sunday.
Supt. Romeo Santander, chief CIB, said Corominas was also involved in a string of killings in the city.
Corominas was arrested in barangay Day-as while visiting his family at 3 a.m. Sunday.
Police got an information that Corominas usually visits his family at dawn.
Police seized a fragmentation grenade, a .45 cal. pistol and a .38 cal. revolver from Corominas.
Jerry, on the other hand, was nabbed in Barangay Calamba, Cebu City at 1 a.m. also on Sunday.
Senior Supt. Noli Romana, chief of police of Cebu City, said that Corominas was responsible for the killing of Teodorico Tolentino Jr. on May 29 in sitio Cogon, barangay Labangon.
He was also implicated in the death of Victoriano Balungkit and for frustrated murder of Jerome Pasolohan on May 8 in sitio Libo, barangay Mojon, Talisay City.
In April, Corominas was tagged in the shooting to death of Labella’s nephew, Rolan Colina.
Corominas also has a pending car theft case.
ADMIT TO ROBBERY
In an interview, Jerry admitted that he was with Corominas when they robbed businesswoman Eleanor Rivera in a mountain barangay.
Jerry also identified their third companion as a certain “Tambok”.
He said he was given P3,000 two weeks ago after committing the crimes.
Jerry revealed that Corominas planned to rob a businessman in Talisay City.
Santander also revealed that the suspects’ target was not there prompting them to find another victim.
The suspects first commandeered a taxi before proceeding to the mountain barangays where they stole motorcycles from different victims as well as Rivera’s Chevrolet Captiva and P50,000 cash.
Corominas allegedly admitted to the crime.
