CEBU CITY, Philippines — Two new cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) have been reported in Minglanilla town this Thursday afternoon, June 11, 2020.

Both patients are from Barangay Linao.

In an update on the town’s Facebook page, the municipal government said the patients are an 82-year-old man and a 24-year-old man, who was earlier identified as a close contact of a previously confirmed COVID-19 patient.

The LGU said the 82-year-old had stayed home for the entire duration of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in the province but sought consultation at a private hospital in the neighboring city of Naga on May 31 due to fever.

According to the LGU, the patient was advised to go home as there was no available room in the hospital.

“Tungod kay nagpadayon ang hilanat giadmit siya sa nahisgutan nga hospital. Since nagpakita siya ug influenza like symptoms gi rT PCR test ug nasuta nga positibo siya sa COVID-19. Sa pagkakaron, giadmit gihapon siya sa hospital ug stable na ang iyang condition,” the LGU said.

(Because his fever persisted, he was admitted to the hospital and was swabbed for rt-PCR testing because he manifested ILI symptoms and he was found positive for COVID-19. At present, his condition is already stable but he is still confined at the hospital.)

The second patient is a 24-year-old man from a privately-owned compound in Barangay Linao. The patient is asymptomatic.

He is a close contact of a previously reported COVID-19 patient in the town who earlier died due to cancer.

His first swab was taken last May 9 and yielded a negative result for  COVID-19. However, he was subjected to a second swab test on May 23 after one of his companions in the isolation facility tested positive of the virus.

“After more than 21 days sa school facility, gipa-undergo og home isolation starting June 4 ug pag June 6, 2020, nigawas ang result nga nagpositibo siya sa COVID-19,” the LGU added.

(After more than 21 days in the school facility, he underwent home isolation starting June 4 and on June 6, 2020, his test results turned out positive of COVID-19.)

The second patient, the LGU said, had remained under home quarantine.

The LGU said they were now conducting further contact tracing for the two new cases./dbs
