Portia D. Dacalos of Cebu City received the 2014 Outstanding Professional of the Year Award in the field of Guidance and Counseling.

Dacalos is  a former guidance specialist of the University of the Philippines in Cebu and former president of the Legal Alternatives for Women (LAW) Center, Inc.

The award is the highest recognition bestowed by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) upon a professional who combines professional competence and integrity as a licensed guidance counselor.

Dacalos, who participated in international conferences and local seminars on guidance, counseling and crisis management, was cited for her enthusiastic work as a volunteer counsel for stress debriefing of survivors of natural calamities.

She was also named one of the Ten Outstanding Women in Cebu City in 2002.

The awarding  ceremonies took place on June 20 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City  and coincided with the 41st Founding Anniversary of the PRC.

Law Center Inc. Dolores M. Aliño said the award was well-deserved and brought honor to women professionals especially those in Cebu.
