CEBU CITY, Philippines — Talisay City is strictly reimposing the market schedule for the barangays as the number of active Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases continues to rise.

In a memorandum order signed by Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas, the barangays are divided into two clusters with three days per week each when the residents are allowed to go to malls, establishments, and public markets.

Cluster one will be allowed to go out on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. It is composed of Barangays Lagtang, San Roque, Cansojong, Tangke, Lawaan 3, Linao, Biasong , Lawaan 2, Candulawan, Jaclupan, and Tapul.

Cluster two will be allowed to go out on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. It is composed of Barangays Bulacao, Tabunok, Dumlog, San Isidro, Poblacion, Maghaway, Lawaan I, Mohon, Pooc, Manipis, and Campo 4.

All city residents will be allowed to go out on Sundays. Quarantine passes and identification cards (IDs) will be required for entry to any establishment in the city.

“Though we have not reached levels that we were in before, it cannot be denied that our active Covid-19 cases are showing signs of increase again. As of Thursday, Jan. 28, we now have 88 active cases. For the past two days, ang atong daily cases nag-double digits na sad and we notice that during our contact tracing efforts, most of those found positive reportedly got Covid-19 while out,” said the mayor in a Facebook post.

The city’s COVID-19 task force reports that the usual common denominators during the contact tracing include workplace transmissions, social gatherings, and going out in malls and groceries or marketplaces.

“I understand that some of you are getting tired of the strict quarantine protocols. But let me remind you that Covid-19 is still here. While the situation isn’t like before, our complacency to follow minimum health protocols will cause harm not just to ourselves but to our loved ones as well,” said Gullas.

The police, traffic enforcers, and barangays will ensure the smooth implementation of this market schedule.
