By: - March 23, 2021

Cebu City, Philippines–It’s been more than a year since the country felt the life-changing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Each of us have different stories to tell on what we did to survive.

Others turned to either starting their plant garden or caring for their existing plans to keep their minds off the problem and while they remain under home quarantine.

There were also those who shifted their energy to creating a more healthy lifestyle.

It is indeed true that having to stay at home for a long time has its pros and cons and it’s up to us to determine how we want our time spent.

But what about the frontliners, who are called to serve the country during the pandemic?

Brendo Casas of Mister Donewell General Services, for example, had his hands full during the pandemic.

Working for a company that offers quality pest and virus control services, he and members of his team were tasked to disinfect homes especially those that were occupied by COVID-positive individuals.

When the pandemic hit last year, Casas thought that he was prepared for the worst especially with his 16 years of experience in his current employment.

But he never thought that 2020 will be the most challenging year for him and other members of his team.

Despite the threat of the infection, he continued to render service to the Cebuano community.

He said that service to the community remained his number priority, a goal which he shared with Mister Donewell General Services.

Difficult Task

Casas said that the pandemic tested not only his dedication to his profession but also his character.

For the first time, he was entrusted the keys of their clients’ homes. He and his team worked to disinfect these homes while its occupants, who are infected with the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), recover in the hospital or in isolation facilities.

They work without direct supervision by the house owners or any of their relatives of house caretakers, he said.

While they work to disinfect these homes, they have also to make sure that they do not get infected or bring home the virus to their respective families.

After work is done, Casas said he would then go to the hospital and ask a nurse or any of their healthcare workers to return the key to its owner.

Fulfilment

Although feeling uncertain during the performance of their tasks, Casas said he would feel proud and fulfilled at the end of very task knowing that he and his team members did their best.

He said that it helped that they were able to immediately adjust to the changing times and the challenges that came their way.

Casas considers as their bonus the praises that they receive from their clients for a job well done.
