Salisi Gang member, drug peddler nabbed in separate police operations
CEBU CITY, Philippines — A notorious thief and a drug peddler were arrested in separate police operations on Saturday, March 20.
Ryan Oyeo, who is said to be a member of the Salisi Gang that victimizes mall goers in the neighboring cities of Cebu and Talisay, and Rocky Zabate Rondina, a drug peddler who is based in Samboan town, are now detained.
Oyeo was arrested in Barangay Poblacion in Talisay City at about 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, but his arrest was made because he tried to evade the checkpoint.
When police cornered and frisked him, they also found three small sachets of suspected shabu from his possession.
A report released by the Talisay City Police Station said that Oyeo, 39, was travelling with a certain “Jojo,” the driver of the motorcycle which he boarded when they passed by the police checkpoint.
Jojo, who is said to be the Salisi Gang leader, made a sudden u turn which caused Oyeo to fall from the motorcycle.
Police continue to look for Jojo, who managed to evade arrest.
It was during their investigation that Talisay City police found out that Oyeo, a native of Barangay Kawayan in Dalaguete Cebu, was a member of the Salisi Gang.
He was also among the gang members who were caught on CCTV while they tried to operate in a mall in Barangay Tabunok on February 26.
Talisay City police are now coordinating with mall security officers in their area to possibly locate Oyeo’s victims and encourage them to also press charges against him.
Earlier on Saturday, police in Samboan town arrested Rocky Zabate Rondina, 36, during a buy-bust operation in Barangay Poblacion.
Police Staff Sergeant Recel Jabagat, desk officer of Samboan Police Station, said that this was already Rondina’s third arrest for a drug-related offense.
Rondina, who was caught with four small packs of suspected shabu, focuses his operation in their town. / dcb
